Patrol Squadron 28 2021 Reunion - Washington, DC

Wednesday, August 25 to Sunday Morning, August 29 2021

The Covid-19 pandemic thew us a curve last year causing us to reschedule to 2021.  Several factors have made it difficult to put things together for this year's Reunion. Covid restrictions have now been lifted by the DC Mayor on June 11 and, by the VA Governor on May 24. Most attractions are now open to visitors. Business venues and government facilities that were shut down are now scrambling to restore their services. We've weathered the storm, and now feel confident that we have a solid Reunion plan. Check out the Reunion details below and send in your Registration form as soon as you can. The only thing we are missing is...YOU.

 REUNION AGENDA

Wednesday, August 25 - Squadron/Check-in Day

Check in at the VP-28 Hospitality Room to pick up your name tag(s) and materials.  No formal activities are planned for Wednesday.  Relax in the VP-28 Hospitality Suite and learn about your sight seeing options during your stay in DC. The Holiday Inn has a Fresh Kitchen restaurant, plus several restaurants are located nearby the Hotel.
If you are interested in visiting the Arlington National Cemetery, Wednesday may be a good time to visit. Purchase your ticket(s) at the Cemetery. Cemetery hop on hop off tram tickets are $6.75 for veterans. Ask at the Squadron check-in desk for transportation options and Click Here for Cemetery ID admission requirements.

Thursday, August 26 - Out-and-About Day

Getting around DC can be difficult and expensive. To get the best bang for our buck we will use the Big Bus hop on/hop off features in concert with the DC Metro System to get around. We all have different interests when it comes to visiting attractions. The Big Bus (BB) gives flexibility to explore on or off the Bus. Sit back and relax as the open top BB takes us on a narrated tour of DC attractions.  Hop off at any of the Big Bus stops to get a close up view of a monument, visit a museum or grab a bite to eat. Your Big Bus ticket is good for 2 consecutive days, and includes a night tour (Thurs. - Sun.) of illuminated DC Monuments.

Friday, August 27 - Out-and-About Day TWO

If you wish to venture out on your own and not use the Big Bus, you can access the METRO Station at National Airport via the Hotel Shuttle, or by Uber or walk to the Crystal City METRO Station.

Saturday, August 28 - Optional Tours

Saturday morning we will offer an optional free tour of the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Chantilly, VA near the Washington Dulles International Airport. Our docent will be Commander Vince Mazzola (VP-28 64-66), and he will give us a personal tour of this facility. Udvar-Hazy is a companion facility to the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The center houses hundreds of historically significant aircraft and spacecraft, along with thousands of small artifacts, which are on display in an open, hangar-like setting.

Stand near famous displays including the Supersonic Concorde, the B-29 Enola Gay which dropped the first atomic bomb in Hiroshima, the Global Flyer - the first airplane to fly solo (non-stop) around the globe without refueling, and the Space Shuttle Discovery to name a few. Or, you may take in a movie at the impressive five-story tall I-MAX theater. Learn More

NOTE: Transportation cost for the Udvar-Hazy trip is dependent on the number of folks who sign up for the tour on their Reunion Registration Form. Be prepared to bring at least $25 each to cover round-trip transport. By the way, admission to the Museum is Free.
